The story of a leaf 一片树叶的故事
CCTV is currently screening a wonderful 6 part documentary series about tea - "the story of a leaf"
The production values are extremely high, giving the hallowed BBC a run for their money. If you've ever been to Nannuo or Jingmai, the first 2 episodes will transport you back there. Each shot is so thoughtful, the producers have managed to capture the romance of tea yet ground it in an appreciation of the hard work the tea farmers & producers put in. You get to see an incredibly beautiful side of China, from Yunnan and Guizhou to Xinjiang, Tibet and Mongolia, and live a day in the life of each ethnic minority. The entire series is well worth watching, even if you can't understand a word of mandarin.
The full series can be viewed on CCTV's website. Just click on the link below and the first full length episode will play. You can watch the other episodes by clicking on the boxes under the video, although at time of publishing only the first 4 episodes are available.

The first episode describes the main different types of tea, the second episode depicts the difficult journey of the tea leaf, from tree to cup, and the third episode explores different way tea & tisanes are enjoyed around China. The fourth episode which only just aired in China this week, looks at how tea cultivation has spread around the world, to South Asia, Africa etc.
